Rwanda and Uganda offer a completely different safari experience to the rest of Africa. Here it is all about mountain gorillas and chimpanzees. The best wildlife viewing involves exploring on foot, deep in the forest. The scenery is breathtaking with dramatic volcanoes, green hills and glistening lakes.

It is estimated that about half of the world’s remaining gorilla population of just seven hundred is hidden in the forests of Uganda and Rwanda. Expert guides will lead you into the jungles of Bwindi National Park in Uganda and Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda in search of these magnificent animals. Whilst chimpanzees are to be found in Kibale National Park in Uganda and Nyungwe Forest Park in Rwanda. There is more, though, to Uganda and Rwanda than gorillas and chimpanzees. These countries have diverse landscapes from snow capped mountains to immense Lake Victoria. You can explore tea, coffee and banana plantations and discover more of the history in the Ethnographic Museum and Kigali’s Genocide Memorial.

Important Information

Please note that in order to protect gorillas from excessive human intervention visitor numbers are strictly controlled by the issue of permits. In high season demand exceeds the number of permits available and some visitors miss out. So avoid disappointment by ensuring that you book as far in advance as possible. We include gorilla permits with all of our holidays and will confirm the availability of a permit at the time of booking.

Gorilla trekking is not permitted to anyone under 15 years of age.
