Rome, Italy’s Eternal City and capital, is steeped in history and culture. A truly amazing city dating back 3,000 years, it boasts an impressive list of must-see attractions.

The Colosseum, Pantheon and Roman Forum are particular highlights. However, wherever you wander, you will likely come across hidden gems.

For art lovers, the Galleria Borghese houses an impressive collection of sculptures and paintings, including works by Bernini and Caravaggio. At the same time, the Capitoline Museums offer a glimpse into ancient Rome’s art and artefacts.

Then there’s the Vatican, the smallest country in the world, located entirely within Rome. It is the spiritual and administrative centre of the Catholic Church and the residence of the Pope.

The main attraction in Vatican City is St. Peter’s Basilica, one of the world’s most famous churches and a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture. Visitors can also see the Sistine Chapel, with its ceiling painted by Michelangelo. The Vatican Museums, open to the public, also house an extensive collection of art and artefacts, including the famous Raphael Rooms.

Another popular attraction is the Vatican Gardens, which cover more than half of Vatican City’s territory and offer beautiful views of the city. They also include the Vatican Necropolis, an underground cemetery that houses the tomb of St. Peter.

Vatican City is also home to the Vatican Library, one of the oldest libraries in the world, which houses an extensive collection of books, manuscripts, and other cultural artefacts.
